God bless you, Frank Frazetta

Frank Frazetta died this week. Frazetta was the greatest fantasy artist of all time. For a very long time, still, maybe, it was my dream to have my work in a little yellow paperback with a Frazetta cover.

Here’s an interview with Frazetta. I’m not really up to much of a tribute of my own, today.

Elric of Melnibone

Two different, and appropriately weird, images of Elric for the novel Stormbringer.

I love the unreal look of the first one… it puts me in mind of artists like Erol Otus and Peter Mullen. Paperback covers sometimes used to have very abstract, eerie looks to them. I’d love to do a project with a similar cover sometime.
